Experience Kung Fu Tea at Xi Shi Lounge
Looking for an exciting cultural experience? Shangri-La’s Xi Shi Lounge offers a Chinese Face Changing Opera and Kung Fu tea performance every Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and 3pm.
The Kung Fu tea master, Che Huadong, perfected his skills in his hometown of Chengdu China and studied with well-respected Chinese masters before performing in Manila, Fiji, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and now, Vancouver. Huadong also performs Face Changing Opera. The theatrical performance, which originated at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, features vividly colored masks, which are change from one face to another almost instantaneously with the swipe of a fan or wave of the hand.
“For Vancouver residents and visitors alike, we hope that Huadong’s arrival will help shine a spotlight on the lesser known Chinese performance arts,” said Kari Koskela, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver.
